SAMPLE LEVEL 4 ANSWER (with Transition Words bolded):

I believe the tone of this article is condescending. The reason that I have chosen condescending is because in the letter to the editor the writer refers to how easily he was able to get a job interview from his uncle. For example, the author writes,  ”I doesnt even had an interview, he just tolds me to come start and I came on time and filed the papers at HR and I am full time now.” I feel this shows the tone of condescending because I think that the writer is trying to say, ‘Look how easy it was for me to get a job. There are lots of jobs out there if you just look hard enough.’ I also wonder if the writer is trying to suggest that unemployed people are lazy and they can’t be bothered to look for work. In fact, he says something to that effect in his letter: “There is alots of work out there but people have to go look and finds it because I am sick and tired about hearing about it on the news. If you are lazy and doesnt want to work then dont complain.” This evidence proves that he feels many of the unemployed are lazy. More evidence of a condescending tone can be found in the sentence, “Peoples who gots laid off is there fault because they dont want to always work and are lazy and want more and more. I am educated person and have i will almost have my GED soon and i am working because i worked hard in life.” This demonstratescondescension because, again, the writer is saying that people who have been laid off are to blame for their problems, not the economy. Therefore, I feel all of this evidence proves that the writer’s tone is condescending.
