For Thursday, December 8, 2011

Hi everyone.  I have a meeting to go to this morning in Strathroy.  Here your jobs for today, please and thank you:

  1. JOB #1 — Discussion Group: please continue to read your novel or research your topic by finding facts and information.

Note #1 FOR NOVELS: if you have chosen a novel, then your job  at the next group discussion is tell your group a brief summary of what has happened in your novel since the last group discussion OR something you discovered that really grabbed your attention because it was weird, scary, disturbing, lame, disgusting, etc.

Note #2 FOR RESEARCH TOPICS: if you have chosen a topic, then keep researching your topic but soon you will have to begin to dig deeper because if you have the opportunity to meet with the same group members for all five discussions, then they will want to hear new information you have found. How do you do that? Research could include: statistics, studies, cool web sites you have found, videos, images, sound bites, props, brochures, reviews, art, music, sculptures, etc.

NOTE #3 FOR EVERYONE: Today, while you are researching and with any free time / class time, keep chipping away at making your questions. There are about 15 questions total and they can really help to solidify your thinking about your novel or topic and the answers you write can give you things to talk about during the discussions.

  2. JOB #2 — ESSAYS: Remember that FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9th IS OUR ESSAY DUE DATE.  As usual, you can negotiate for more time BUT you must show me your work so far.  Unfortunately, if you have been working on it at home, then you need to bring in your rough work so that I can see it for myself. Showing me what you have written so far will allow you to ‘earn’ the extension.
  3. JOB #3 — DOCUMENTARIES: Please get your documentaries into me or shown to me right away. If you haven’t finished your documentary, then you must get that into me ASAP.

Work for November 16, 2011

Hi everyone. Had to go to a meeting today in the school.

Here are your jobs for today:

JOB #1: G.Y.S.T.
1. Finish your LOOSE CHANGE information sheet and / or LOOSE CHANGE paragraph.
2. Finish your DOCUMENTARY.

JOB #2: MARSHMALLOW TOWERS REFLECTION
Please complete your Marshmallow Towers Reflection sheet alone or talking to your group mates.

JOB #3:
1. Please go to the following site: http://www.miniclip.com/games/bloxorz/en/
1. Your job is to a) play the game for a while. Then b) choose one level and c) explain the 5 to 10 steps required to solve that level. Your goal: your steps should be as clear as possible; as opposed to “Move over to the side” your instructions could be “Press the up arrow so that the bloxorz falls on its left side. Then press the up arrow two times to have the bloxorx roll over twice.”

2. Find a game of your choice on the internet (no sketchy games, please and thank-you!) and complete the same activity: 5 to 10 specific steps about a specific task or job in your chosen game.
If you are stumped for games, you could ask around for a game or you could try this site:  http://www.classicgamesarcade.com/

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Hi everyone,

As it turns out, I had to go to a meeting for this morning, so your job, please and thank you, is to do the following:

  1. Choose your documentary. The documentary Loose Change can be found here on this post here in Brutal Carrots at this post or by going to www.youtube.com and typing in “Loose Change 2nd Edition”. Or, as we discussed in class, your job is to find your documentary of choice on the internet. If you are stuck,  go to YouTube and type in “Full Length Documentaries” and look for a documentary that is about 2 hrs (12o minutes) in length. (When I searched that topic tonight,  I found at least five or six.)
  2. While you are watching, please take detailed notes to be used later in our end of unit analysis. Here is the same sheet that we practiced while watching Jack the Ripper:  4C Documentary Analysis Choice Board and Questions.

Thank you!

Mr. Cooke
